"I cannot express how important TKO’s Punch Drunk III comp was to my development as a grimy-ass malcontent. It was hostile, and confrontational, and the tracks were pretty damn catchy. But I was also becoming immersed in this radical, lefty, zine-punk identity, so I just naturally traded in my Budweiser longnecks for ninety-nine cent tall cans of PBR, which was the style at the time.

All this to say is that I fuckin’ love the Death Ridge Boys and when they released this digitally in early 2021 I ate it up like it was a family recipe. I ate it up like I was finally home from some arduous journey! Their combination of gruff and catchy street-oi mixed with anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, pro-community solidarity anthems is so fuckin’ dialed into the deepest connective tissue of my psyche, I am shook.

To round out the B side with covers of the Big Boys, Wire, and 7 Seconds, is just a little slice of heaven on earth. This one is for everyone who fuckin’ takes it to the streets. “Let them know, we’re not gonna take it!” “There’s always darkness before the dawn.”
